Orioles vs Yankees, May 27th, 1981

"...George Steinbrenner right now is being given a respirator by EBW".

"...and the Mayor of 33rd St., the Mayor tonight  - all Baltimore loves him, is Terry Crowley".

Just a couple of awesome one liners found on this recording.

The Baltimore Orioles hosted the New York Yankees in a late May three game series with Yankees owner George Steinbrenner a guest of Orioles owner Edward Bennett Williams. The Orioles swept the Yankees and won the third game in dramatic fashion.

How old were you in 1981? How fanatical were you when it came to watching or listening to the Orioles play? It seems as though it was my life back then. I was 16 in 1981 and in fact, was just turning 16 a couple days after this recording.

Orioles beat Yankees 1982

Game one of a five game mid-week series vs the Yankees. Chuck Thompson with the call. Monday Sept 13th, 1982 the Orioles defeat the Yankees 8-7. Tippy Martinez strikes out Dave Winfield on Rick Dempsey's birthday to end game. Mike Boddicker's first career win. Detroit beats the Brewers on a walk off homer by Lance Parrish and the O's stadium goes wild when announced. The Orioles pull to just one back in the "All important loss column". Wait for it...wait for it... 1:10

Tell me this does not give you all the goose bumps? The O's go on to win 5 in a row vs the Yankees. This is for historical purposes and is an analog tape recording I did when I was 17 living in Rockville, MD.

Freshman Len Bias game winning shot vs TN Chattanooga 1983 NCAA tournament

Freshman Len Bias game winning shot vs TN Chattanooga

From a cassette recording I did when I was 17 years old living in Maryland.
.
The last 1:42 seconds of Maryland vs TN Chattanooga in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Adrian Branch led the team but when he was covered, they put the ball in the hands of Lenard (as Lefty called him).

You'd think this game was the ACC championship or the final four the way the announcers called it.

Enjoy.

P.S. I see the typo in the video. Takes to long to fix. I need to wear my glasses. "This is the last 1:42 seconds..."

On the way...1983 O's vs White Sox game 3 ALCS

On the way to the World Series - This 15 1/2 minute tape is of game three 1983 ALCS O's vs White Sox. Using the pause button, I recorded mostly just the pitches something happened. Most of the tape takes place after 5 inning. This game was over by the first inning and ended 11-1. This tape gets a 5-10 on the O's meter.

From 15:30 to 29:27 enjoy radio music of the day along with some outbursts of yours truly answering my mother.

I'm talkin' baseball...the Birds, the Birds

Thanks John for the email and the positive words about this blog. I'm ashamed I only put one tape up and that was 2 plus years ago. I had uploaded a few tapes but never posted them. Here's a great tape with a full recording of "I'm talkin' baseball...baseball and the O's".

This tape is late in the 1982 and the O's were in the middle of winning 10 in a row and 18 out of 19 games.

The tape starts with the recap of Jim Palmer's one hitter vs. the Twins - you all know when this was during that 1982 year. Yes, I have chills right now as I'm listening as I'm writing. After the full rendition of the "I'm talkin' baseball..." we pick up with a post game show with Tom Marr recapping a win vs. the Yankees.
Jim Palmer's classic delivery

O's have won 10 in a row and 17 out of 18 after beating the Twins 5 - 4 who fell apart with errors (Gary Gaetti)

The O's beat the Yanks 8-7 and the O's pull within a game in the all important loss column when the Tigers beat the Brewers. This is awesome! Mike Boddicker first career win. Tippy Martinez strikes out Winfield to win the game. The O's have now won 20 out of 24.

From Baseballreference.com - the 1982 Orioles. Find the game and check out the box score.

I seemed to have a habit of switching to music a few times during commercials.

After listening, come back and let us know how you liked the tape and what memories you have it.
